Attracted to the outstanding lyricism in country music, April initially chose none other than the capitol of country music, Nashville, to record her EP “Music Speaks”. Immediately, April felt at home sharing, “I love it in Nashville. I feel like I should have been born here! With studios and musicians on every corner, it was heaven for me.”
Following the release of the “Music Speaks” EP, April received major nods in the form of song placement on TV shows such as Love Games on Oxygen and MTV’s The Real World. She also struck up a musical partnership with Javier Colon, who is best known as the winner of The Voice’s first season.
Written by Jennifer Pappas, JP Rende and Kathryn Raio ,“Fireflies” establishes the next phase of April’s career. April highlights the significance of the single saying, “It’s a song that describes the feelings of falling in love for the first time, a song about being young, carefree and the ability to completely lose yourself in another person. It’s a time in your life that you will never forget, and something that we can all relate to”. The imagery and romance of the lyrics take listeners back in time to that place where they first found love, and in April’s case,it just happens to be “..on a summer breeze, on a bed of petals ‘neath our Dogwood tree”. It is apparent that April learned the art of classic country music storytelling during her time in Nashville!
Lyrics are a major driving factor for April as an artist and performer. “The reason I love music is that it brings people together. I truly believe that the lyric is the heart of a song, and without substance, you won’t make a lasting impression. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what language you speak, music is a universal language and if I can touch just one person with a melody or a lyric of mine, I’ve done my job as an artist.”
